Drill holes into log with a 12mm drill bit, insert the mushroom sawdust spawn of your choice with inoculation tool, then cover with melted wax to seal in moisture and prevent contaminants from entering. Simply unscrew brass plunger and the tool comes apart for easy cleaning or replacement of spring.
The “thumb” inoculator is designed for single handed operation, leaving one hand free to rotate the log. Those with smaller hands often prefer the “palm” inoculator with a broad rounded top that is easy on the hands.
