Rain continues to fall, causing more road closures and uncertainty about postal delays after floods and landslides closed BC’s highways mid November.
BC’s state of emergency will impact service to our customers across Canada in different ways, as we serve customers in western Canada directly from our BC farm, whereas customers in eastern Canada are served from our location in Ontario.
We will do our best to keep customers informed as this situation evolves, and to accommodate your needs. For gifts, please consider an email Gift Card (which you can also print yourself and hand deliver) which is guaranteed to arrive in time!
Customers in Western and Northern Canada (BC, SK, AB, MB, YT, NT, NU)
Canada Post Shipments have so far been delivered within a reasonable timeline to customers on the lower mainland and Vancouver Island.
For customers in the rest of BC, plus western and northern Canada – shipments have been delayed with mixed timelines up to 2 weeks being estimated by Canada Post and no guarantees. With the uncertainty of what impact the rains this week will have on shipping, compounded by the seasonal rush, we encourage customers to consider an email Gift Card, or a non-perishable gift ideas.
Canada Post Express ships by air and circumvents the highway closures. This option is more expensive but will get your gift there in time. Please contact us at email@example.com for an Express shipping quote.
Customers in Eastern Canada (ON, QC, PE, NS, NL, NB)
We have a very limited supply of mushroom kits left at our location in Ontario. Regretfully due to highway closures, we have been unable to ship more kits form our farm on Vancouver Island BC to replenish stock.
We are monitoring this closely, and will ship more kits as soon as possible. However with delays and seasonal rush, we are concerned new stock may not arrive in time to be delivered by Christmas.
Once our current stock of kits in Ontario runs out, we can arrange to ship via Canada Post express directly from our BC farm, by air, to eastern Canada as this circumvents the highway closures. Express shipping is expensive, but will get your gift there in time. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for a shipping quote.
As an alternative we are encouraging eastern customers to consider email Gift Cards and let them “choose their own” mushroom kit. We also have a great selection of non-perishable gift ideas. All other products are currently in stock and shipping within 1-3 days from our Ontario location.

BC State of Emergency
Recent floods and landslides in British Columbia closed all highways that bring our mushroom growing kits and supplies from our farm on Vancouver Island to customers across Canada. Our hearts go out to those affected by the floods.
This morning our Canada Post representative informed us that parcels are now moving, albeit very slowly, from BC’s lower mainland via hwy 3 to the rest of Canada (with the exception of communities still under evacuation orders)
With that reassurance, we will continue to ship all orders within 1-2 business days via Canada Post Business Expedited, but please anticipate that delivery could take up to 2 weeks.
To arrange for faster Express shipping (by air) please contact us prior to placing your order, as it is not an option on our online store.
For customers ordering Christmas and seasonal gifts, we recommend that you order as soon as possible. This emergency affecting transportation corridors will compound the seasonal postal rush, creating unpredictable delays.
For those keen to give a living mushroom kit, please ensure that you have the means to keep it cold until opening. If helpful, we are happy to delay shipping up to Dec.8th. You can make this request as a “customer note” during checkout.
A sticker on the outside of your parcel will alert/remind the receiver to refrigerate or keep cold until opening. Otherwise, after a couple of weeks, there may be a surprise bouquet of mushrooms growing right out of the box under the Christmas tree – ooops!
If you do choose to delay, we request your understanding that should we accidentally run out of stock, we will substitute a similar product. As a small family farm we will do our best to juggle the challenges of limited production and refrigeration facilities, confounded by seasonal demands and natural disasters. We don’t want to disappoint you, so we want to be upfront with this caveat just in case……
Best wishes to you all,
Jessica and Paul
